High precision CNC center to develop high-quality glass coolants

Chemetall, a global business unit of Albemarle (NYSE: ALB), has invested in a computer numerical controlled (CNC) machining tool for the grinding, milling and drilling of glass.

Baton Rouge, La./USA, New Providence, NJ/USA; Frankfurt/ Germany; November 26, 2015.
The new CNC center enables the global surface treatment company to further develop and optimize their glass coolant technologies in order to meet the high demands of their automotive and architectural customers for increased productivity, faster production processes and excellent quality. The precision tolerances accomplished with the five-axe CNC machine are identical for all cutting or movement directions. This allows Chemetall to reproduce in the laboratory glass processing processes under industrial conditions. Different influences on the coolant technologies can be analyzed far more easily and the effects on the optical and mechanical surface and edge quality or the service life of the tool can be better measured. The company trusts that the investment will enhance their current glass processing portfolio and strengthen its global market position.
